Is the coffee reign over yet? Bellocq Tea

Bellocq Tea

Where I live, Autumn has begun, the leaves have turned shades of yellow, red and orange, soon Winter will be here.  As the climate cools I love to keep warm sipping on tea. Tasting tea rooms are becoming extremely popular in New York and Japan.  We need to reign in this coffee craze and make room for fine tea.

Tea is a healthy invigorating drink. Drinking tea can be great for your skin as it contains antioxidants like polyphenols which protects against certain age-related diseases. One study has found that drinking six cups of tea is like eating six apples.  Tea also has a fascinating 4,500 year history with traces of tea connoisseurship going as far back as 2737BC China.*

My skin simply loves drinking up the benefits of tea, for the morning I love an Assam or Kenya and then in the mid afternoon a smoky lapsang souchong.  Then lighter teas as the evening looms, like a fruity darjeeling. I also like to detox and take a tea for dinner instead of a meal, perhaps a lighter oolong, something clean and elegant to aid in some deep beauty sleep. Continue reading

Liquid Laser Concentrate by Alpha-H cult product alert

Liquid Laser Liquid Laser ConcentrateLiquid Laser is the “all the rage” in beauty right now and it’s about to go off and disrupt the laser treatment game. If you are like me and often find yourself deep in cogitation about laser treatment, shall I? shan’t I?  Is it necessary? Is it too invasive? Then let me help you out with five words Liquid Laser Concentrate by Alpha-H.  It is beyond WOW.

It is packed with exemplary ingredients, some of which are Juveleven, a revolutionary new Hexapeptide, which mimics the action of the Hydra Jellyfish, a freshwater organism nicknamed the “Immortal Jellyfish”.  Hydranov-P, which is naturally derived from Scandinavian Red Algae and stimulates the actual synthesis of natural Hyaluronic Acid in the skin by over 211%.

I am completely addicted to Alpha-H’s Liquid Laser Concentrate and I honestly feel as though I have turned back the clock on my skin leaving me petrified that if I don’t use it, my face will fall. It leaves my skin feeling super plumped with a porcelain feel, penetrative and thick on the skin. I feel like it’s working when I am sleeping. I wake up and my skin is clear, clear, clear and lifted.

How I use it: Continue reading

All Grown Up Guinot

GuinotIf you take a look at the Guinot skin care range, you could probably pick out a Guinot product you have used at least once during your lifetime.  Perhaps names like Masque Essentiel and Gommage Biologique resonate?  (They were my faves as a teen).

If you don’t know Guinot: it is a skin care range from Paris which has been around for about 40 years and is a benchmark for many beauty salons, and deservedly so.  Their range evokes luxury at an affordable (ish) price. Continue reading

Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipes Review

Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipes review

Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipes Review: Josie’s make up wipe removers are my favourite wipes at the moment and are sooooo much better than the wipes of the bigger brands that leave your skin feeling tight, irritated and inflamed – which I despise – seriously who wants that?  Josie Maran’s Bear Naked Wipes are super soft and smell so lovely, but most importantly, I love them because they don’t make my skin feel dry. I also use them to wipe off my eye make-up without any stinging. These wipes leave my skin feeling quite dewy and fresh (which may be from the infusion of the argan oil). I use these wipes first to get my make up off and then finish with a cleanser and my clarisonic for a deeper clean, getting right to the base of the skin. I keep a pack in my bag if I want to freshen up and/or to reapply make up.

My love for the Paul and Joe beauty mirror

Paul and Joe Beauty Mirror

I have been non committal to the many pharmacy compact mirrors I have purchased over the years, they were either too small, too big, not pretty enough, they broke or went missing.  That was until about 6 years ago when I came across the Paul and Joe Beauty Mirror from Harvey Nichols, I have been faithfully devoted to this mirror ever since.  It is the sweetest, loveliest, most elegant and best compact beauty mirror, it’s a pretty ivory colour with a chrysanthemum print and a solid clasp that has been truly tested over the years.  Continue reading

Clinique Lower Lash Mascara and lower lash beauty tools for big beautiful eyes

Clinique Lower Lash Mascara

This is my review on Clinique Lower Lash Mascara and the best mascara tool ever: the mascara guard.

When I was on a layover in Singapore (beauty tool heaven) I stumbled upon the Clinique Lower Lash Mascara and WOW WOW WOW what have I been doing with my lower lashes for the last 15 years? Or what haven’t I been doing?  This mascara is the BOMB.  The Clinique Lower Lash Mascara’s brush head is super small so that you can coat the lower lashes which is a god send for fair lashed ladies.  Continue reading

Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Mask Review

Aztec Secret Healing Clay Mask

This is an ode to the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Mask.  This stuff really does what it says on the box, it is an excellent pore cleansing mask.  What’s also great is that it is natural, quick to use and sooooooo cheap.  I buy the largest size for around the $20 mark so I can use it on my body too and it lasts forever, I have had this large tub for over a year now.

It is made with 100% natural calcium bentonite (green) clay and has no additives, or fragrances and is not tested on animals.

To apply, I always tie every piece of hair away from my face (it is clay and can stick to hair), then I mix it with equal part raw apple cider vinegar (or you can use water).  Then stir into smooth paste and apply a thick layer.  After about 15 minutes (it might pulsate a little) I wash it off and no kidding smooth and glowing skin but most importantly no more impurities as pores are super clean and smaller.  I LOVE this mask Continue reading

Beauty Book Review: Eating for Beauty by David Wolfe

Eating for Beauty by David Wolfe

This is a beauty book review on my favourite beauty book ‘Eating for Beauty’ by author and nutrition expert David Wolfe.  I love using skin creams, lotions and make up, but when it comes down to it, good skin does not solely come from the products we use.  That beauty glow comes first and foremost from what we eat, quality of sleep and from nurturing our insides.  David Wolfe in this beauty book touches on all of this, he explains the most beautifying foods and each and one of their properties together with gorgeous pictures.  The beauty book is engaging and informative and poetically written.  The book goes into a special beauty diet, beauty recipes, yoga, acid/alkaline balance, body beauty, plant foods, oils, fats and herbs. get a lippy makeover: “Fresh Sugar Lip Polish” for softer lips

Fresh Sugar Lip Polish

I give myself a lippy makeover at least once a week. It may sound unusual, but it is essential for softer lips: I use Fresh Sugar Lip Polish.  I started using it about three years ago and always keep at least three in my beauty cabinet, I have introduced this product to so many of my friends who also love it   When I first went to purchase it a few years ago, I visited two department stores in the USA and they had sold out, so I was put on a waiting list. It has been described as a must have cult product by many magazines and has a celebrity following.

You use it by applying a small amount and massage it into your lips, then rinse with a warm wash cloth, whoosh! Dead skin cells gone and result, super soft lips!  Honestly, it is that easy and a joy to use.  The packaging is also quite lovely, but more importantly it is a lip scrub that works and has lovely ingredients like shea butter and jojoba.

Softer Lips

I finish my lippy makeover, by using a bit of colour and nourishment you MUST try Fresh’s gorgeous Lip Treatment balms.  They leave a matt finish but have a nice flat sheen and are soooo moisturizing (with SPF).  My favourite colour is Sugar Rose which gives that natural looking lip colour but with a hint Continue reading

best product for smooth feet …beauty review on milky foot

best product for smooth feet
I felt obliged to pen a beauty review on milky foot, it is the best product for smooth feet that I have used thus far.  It is around the $30 mark and much cheaper than seeing a podiatrist and is very simple to use.  You lather the cream on, put the foot pads on, and socks over the top…..then in about 45 minutes wash it off.  The visible results don’t come for about 1 week.  It’s bemusing at first because Continue reading

Loving this Clarisonic Body Brush Extender for better skin

Clarisonic Body Brush Extender
It’s no secret that I am the biggest Clarisonic fan ever, it was one of Oprah’s favourite things and it’s mine too (previous review here). My obsession with clear skin and Clarisonic has drawn me to this little beauty, the Clarisonic Body Brush Extension Handle. The handle attaches to a Clarisonic Plus or the PRO face and Body Sonic and gives the same penetrating clean on your back that you get on Continue reading

The better retinol for better skin

Jan Marini Retinol Plus

Retinol, Retinol, Retinol this is the game changer for ageing skin as far as I am concerned.  I may not be a Doctor but I can almost guarantee that most dermatologists would agree with this statement.  Retinol is a cell communicating ingredient helping to speed up the skin cell turnover which in turn helps to create healthier skin cells and increase collagen over time.  People often comment on my youthful skin and I honestly believe it comes down to my persistent use of retinol for over the Continue reading

exfoliating ocean shower with the cult Swedish Dream Sea Salt Soap

Swedish Dream Sea Salt Soap I absolutely adore this Swedish Dream Sea Salt Soap. It has got to be one of the most refreshing exfoliating but gentle soaps around.   The soap smells like the sea as it lathers then it leaves a lingering clean smell for hours. It’s a triple-milled soap featuring mineral-rich salts naturally obtained from seawater, it also Continue reading
